黄点線が阿多火砕流を噴出したと考えられる阿多カルデラ。赤点線は地形的に推定されたカルデラ。指宿火山群のうち後・阿多火砕流の火山群を、開聞岳火山を含め、後カルデラ期の阿多中央火口丘群と呼ぶことがある。その場合のカルデラは赤点線になる。このカルデラの北西側のカルデラ縁とされるのが鬼門平（おんかどびら）断層崖（開聞岳の北）。
