Jury 18, 2023 New satellite image registration, which was suspended on October 14, 2022, was re-started.

October 14, 2022 New satellite image registration acquired after November 10 was stopped due to Ground Data Processing failure.

September 2, 2019 ASTER images observed after July 7, 2019 were orthorectified with GDEM version 3 (ASTGTMV003).

July 17, 2019 New satellite image registration, which was suspended on February 6, 2018, was re-started.

February 6, 2018 New satellite image has not being added because of network trouble at AIST.

October 3, 2016 The Image Database for Volcanoes was proved under a CC BY 4.0 Intl. However, there were no restrictions on ASTER data downloaded from Image Database for Volcanoes.

September 1, 2016 Nighttime SWIR hotspot information, which was not displayed due to a software bug, was displayed.

February 1, 2015 The links to the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program were updated.

May 20, 2014 version 3.0 was released.

• All ASTER images were orthorectified with GDEM version 2.
• VNIR color assignment was changed to natural-color (R:G:B=b2:(b3+b1*3)/4:b1).
• Geometric correction DB version 3.02 was applied to nighttime ASTER image.
• "Nadir view" and "Backward view" were deleted.
• "Major volcanoes in regional order" menu was deleted.
• "frame" tags were replaced by other html tags.
• Popup menu of Google Earth version was modified.

April 24, 2013 The GSJ logo was added to each volcano page.

March 21, 2013 Service was moved to the new server at gbank.gsj.jp.

October 12, 2011 Service was re-started.

September 26, 2011 Service was unavailable because of computer relocation.

July 6, 2011 New satellite image registration, which was suspended on March 11, 2011, was re-started.

March 17, 2011 Service was re-started. However, new satellite image has not being added because of computer system failure.

March 11, 2011 Service was stopped because of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

October 25, 2010 version 2.3 was released.

• Service was re-started on new server igg01.gsj.jp.
• Top page was renewed.

September 14, 2009 A breadcrumb navigation was added.

September 9, 2009 Service was re-started on tentative server (geodata1.geogrid.org).

From July 30 to September 8, 2009 Service was not available because of server (www.gsj.jp) failure.

October 22, 2008 HELP Menu was added to the Google Earth version.

June 27, 2008, version 2.2 was released. Total number of registered volcanoes is 964.

• "All volcanoes with Google Earth" was added.
• Nighttime SWIR hotspot information was added the main menu.

May 9, 2008, version 2.1 was released. Total number of registered volcanoes is 964.

• One volcano (Unnamed26) was deleted.
• One volcano (Toluca,Nevado_de) was added.
• The names of three volcanoes (Mahagnoa->Mahagnao, Maqiling ->San_Pablo_Volc., Oldoinyo_Eburru->Ol_Doinyo_Eburru) were changed.
• The geographic locations of twenty-three volcanoes (Tangkubanparahu, Nemrut_Dagi, Teyr_Djebel, Taftan, Mahagnao, Unnamed14, Kuttara, Veer, Tianshan_Volc.G, ChaineDes_Puys, Namarunu, Segererua_Plate, Ol_Doinyo_Eburru, Danau_Complex, Midagahara, Rausu, Udokan_Volc.F., Raton-Clayton, Tzanjuyub_Volca, Caburgua, Aguilera, Reclus) were changed.
• Statistic information was added.
• Best VNIR image was added.

February 25, 2008, version 2.0 was released. Total number of registered volcanoes is 964.

• 915 volcanoes in North and South America, Africa, Europe and other areas were added.
• Official version was combined with Prototype version into Major volcanoes in regional order (107 volcanoes) and All volcanoes in alphabetic order (964 volcanoes).
• Data update frequency was changed to once in two days.
