QuiQuake- Quick Estimation System for Earthquake Maps Triggered by Observation Records -


QuiQuake (Quick estimation system for earthQuake maps triggered by observation records) provides wide and detail strong ground motion maps such as peak ground velocity (PGV) and instrumental seismic intensity (INT) soon after an earthquake occurrence in and around Japan using combined usage of amplification capability map and observed seismic records, which can help to support decision making for disaster response and business continuity planning (BCP) by municipalities and companies. The amplification capability (Vs30) is estimated from geomorphologic condition based on the Japan Engineering Geomorphologic Classification Map whose spatial resolution is 7.5 arc-second in latitude and 11.25 arc-second in longitude (approximately 250m square). The system is activated to harvest the data recorded at strong ground motion observation stations operated by National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED).


The map is estimated by using the published seismic records on the NIED FTP site. The result is provided as PNG and GeoTIFF formatted files and WMS through KML.


For more quick estimation the map is calculated by using the Promply Released Data on the NIED website.


The system uses the data recorded of strong motion network (K-NET and KiK-net) administrated by National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) and the published program of Prof. Y. Hisada, Kogakuin University, to calculate instrumental seismic intensity. The Vs30 map creation was supported by Prof. K. Wakamatsu, Kanto Gakuin University. "RApid Shake Map simulator with Observed records (RASMO)" which was published by Kawasaki Laboratory, NIED is used by the supports from Dr. I. Suetomi, Eight-Japan Engineering Consultants Inc. and Mr. M. Hashimoto, Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc. We optimized the software for fast calculation in the GEO Grid system.
